Maine Technology Institute (MTI) – TechStart Grant
Awarded 11/23/2011 to:
Solution Mates Inc., Scarborough for Feasibility Planning

Unique bacteria control and reusability attributes have enabled Solution Mates Inc. (SMI) to successfully market its current anti-microbial cloth, now in thousands of North American retailers. This technology is setting new standards and the MTI grant supports SMI’s SBIR/STTR Phase-1 proposals to proof new anti-microbial cloth properties and functionality, determine feasibility of, and create a manufacturing blueprint for, Maine production of existing and next-generation exclusive wood fiber and other fabric materials currently manufactured in Asia. The long term goal is to create reputable jobs by producing these products here in Maine, and positioning Maine in the global market as “the” core competency for the growing consumption of wood-fiber and related textile materials, thereby establishing additional value based “made-in-Maine” products.

March 2011
The amazing Duzi™ Cloth

A local Maine Company is making a business of bringing innovative products to our everyday lives! Solution Mates, Inc. “SMI”, of Scarborough, distributes a range of unique home products. Each of their items have three things in common; they promote healthier living, save the consumer money, and lead in environmental responsibility. One such item SMI is providing to local, regional and national accounts is a unique multi-use cleaning cloth that rinses 99.99% bacteria free with simple tap water. “This item is like nothing else on the market” says SMI’s President Phil Pastore. Traditional microfiber and cotton cloths smell moldy for a reason. They pick up germy messes, but only rinse 24% to 40% clean, while sponges are even worse! Seeing this Independent lab data makes it no wonder why colds and flus last so long. Although all cloths visually appear to rinse cleanly, Duzi is the only one that actually does. These evaluations were performed with some of the nastiest germs around, a broth including salmonella, e-coli and listeria. The Duzi™, derived from sanitation critical sushi kitchen technology, is produced from all natural wood-pulp fiber (abundant in Maine). Given the growing demand, Pastore’s Company has been working with the State on the vision to manufacture these cloths here in Maine. Duzi™ is designed to last the equivalent of 1000 paper-towel cleanups, approaching the life of cotton. Knowing that the average household spends $250-$500/year on paper-towels, when you do the math you quickly realize Duzi™ is saving consumers hundreds of dollars/year, not to mention the fewer chemicals needed and the fact that you won’t be contributing to the more than 3000 tons of paper-towel waste created in the US every day. Germs simply rinse down the drain instead of incubating in trash throughout our homes. And, when you feel the cloth has fulfilled its purpose, it composts in just 12 weeks compared to hundreds of years for the synthetic petroleum based microfibers & scrubs. “Although we’ve planned to compost ours, we haven’t retired one yet” says Pastore. “As the cloth wears it just get relegated to a new job like polishing furniture, cars, boats, shoes, etc. Finally, since this super soft & absorbent Duzi™ doesn’t trap those nasty particles, it never, ever smells! When these claims, made on two major TV shopping networks, were challenged by the world’s largest retailer, the accredited data was quickly validated and in a few short months Duzi™ began North American distribution. Now Duzi™ can be found in several stores near you, including: all Hannaford’s, Lois’s Natural, Rising Tide Naturals, many other natural stores, Maine “Ace” Hardware and many other ACE & True Value locations, select Walmarts and numerous other fine retailers across the US.

In a world full of health, environment and financial concerns, the Duzi™ is a rare item which helps the consumer address all three! Duzi does it all!™ Please ask for it by name. For more information please visit our websites at: www.solutionmates.com or www.mabu.com . Duzi™ is a product of Mabu Naturals, International, Inc..
